The Marantz new home theater flagship, the AV8802 AV preamp combines the ultimate in audio quality with the latest video technology and connections. The AV8802 features a solid build quality with toroidal transformer and three-piece top cap for stability and heat dissipation. The copper chassis is immune to external influences.
Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D
The AV8802 is an 11.2-channel home theater processor and preamplifier, built according to the same recipe as its predecessor AV8801, the successor has been given Dolby Atmos decoding with extra channels in the ceiling (upgradable with Auro 3D) which is a competing format to Atmos and also uses height speakers. All to provide a more three-dimensional movie experience.
The AV8802 features high-quality audio components, such as 32-bit/192 kHz resolution digital converters and a power supply with 4 capacitors of 10,000 microfarads to deliver sound as quickly as possible. Four DSP engines take care of the audio processing of the 11.2 channels.
4K Ultra HD
Next-generation 4K Ultra HD video is supported at both 50 and 60 frames per second and full color depth (4:4:4). The processor can of course upscale HD video to 4K as well. 8 HDMI inputs are provided, 1 of which is on the front. 3 HDMI outputs can display image on two screens in the main zone and one in another room.
The AV8802 will be upgradeable to the 4K Blu-ray format when it arrives and HDCP 2.2 copy protection will be standardized says Marantz.
Other features
The AV8802 has Wifi and Bluetooth and can handle internet radio, Spotify Connect and AirPlay. It can handle most music formats from your computer or network drive, including FLAC, ALAC, WAV 192 kHz/24 bit and AAC. Seamless playback is also possible, including DSD and AIFF.
On the front is a USB port that supports iPhone and iPad, and on the back is a turntable input. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room correction can be upgraded to the Pro version for precise speaker calibration.

Current Feedback technology in harmony with HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Modules) makes the sound blossom to its full potential. The Marantz proprietary Current Feedback is based on getting a large bandwidth and an ultra-fast reproduction by having a limited impedance resulting in very low phase shifts. By minimizing the phase compensation via the negative feedback, excellent transient reproduction is achieved. The technology also integrates Marantz HDAM circuits with high-quality and discrete components to further enhance the audio experience with a precise and detailed sound. Discrete components instead of cheap, off-the-shelf ICs. These HDAMs do the same job as OP amplifiers, but outperform the regular IC OP amplifiers, giving a much more dynamic, precise and detailed sound. These are an integral part of the Current Feedback technology.

Regarding speakers, be aware that speakers may need a long recording time to come into their own. After a couple of hours you can usually get a taste of what to expect, but a speaker deserves 100h+ before serious listening. The speakers we sell with ribbon tweeters need several hundred hours before they start to sing. So feel free to leave the speakers on around the clock so you can quickly accumulate hours.
