The XTZ Cinema SUB 3X12 was built for one task only: to make you experience the real world of cinema, not only with a pure, dynamic sound but also as a physical experience. It creates an atmosphere that will blow you away! Maximum power for maximum home theater experience is the main idea behind this outstanding subwoofer. As one of the world's most powerful cinema/hi-fi subwoofers, the 3X12 can achieve an incredibly high sound pressure level, even in the lowest frequencies. But it's not just the subwoofer's volume that's astonishing, but also how smooth it sounds and how easily this subwoofer reproduces the full bass frequency range.
Speaker drivers
The Cinema 3X12 features three advanced High-Speed Ultra-Long-Stroke drivers developed by XTZ's R&D team. Thanks to their low weight and extreme rigidity, all desired impulses are delivered with maximum speed and precision. Each of the 3 drivers is powered by a Claridy Class-D amplifier with 500 W RMS and 900 W peak power, giving a total available power of 2700 W. The Class-D amplifiers have a perfect clipping characteristic, ensuring maximum headroom and extreme dynamics. Deep and powerful bass has never sounded this real before.
Sound Tuning
The Cinema 3X12 has several configuration options that allow it to be perfectly adapted to the room and taste. The lower frequency limit is an incredibly deep 16 Hz. For this reason, the subwoofer is equipped with a special room-boosting EQ to reduce the influence of room modes. In addition, the bass reflex tube can be closed with the supplied plug. In this way, it is even possible to change the sound characteristics of the 3X12 so that it behaves like a closed subwoofer. This allows each owner to customize the 3X12 to the needs of each installation.
Enclosure
To minimize resonances in the enclosure, a specific trapezoidal shape has been chosen for the cabinet. The outer walls are made of 25 mm deep MDF, which is reinforced with 40 mm thick stiffeners. The front wall and the bottom of the enclosure are each a total of 55 mm thick. The rearward sound is absorbed using generous amounts of insulation material. All these design elements, together with the precisely dimensioned enclosure, ensure that the subwoofer's sound is precise and controlled at all sound pressure levels.
Surface finish
To avoid disturbing light reflections on the surface of the Cinema 3X12 when using a video projector, a special anti-glare coating is applied to the front panel. This special matte black paint is applied in 8 layers to give an optimal result. The side walls are painted with a Nextel coating that also minimizes reflections and optimizes the handling of the subwoofer.
Terminals
The rear terminal supports connections with either an RCA or XLR cable. An XLR output allows the XLR input signal to be passed on, for example to a second subwoofer in multi-subwoofer configurations. Crossover frequency, phase and volume can be precisely adjusted here, and Room EQ Gain can be turned on or off to customize the sound to the room and personal preferences.
Front grille
The Cinema 3X12 has a dedicated magnetic front panel for each of the three drivers. The black acoustic material is opaque and fully sound permeable. It protects the speaker elements from potential damage. The XTZ Cinema logo is magnetic so that it can be placed on the subwoofer where it fits best.
Subwoofer Element
The 12" Cinema Series woofer is called the Advanced High-Speed Ultra-Long-Stroke using a very light cone material and a very strong motor (magnet) structure. XTZ chooses fast and lightweight drivers to achieve both high speed and maximum dynamic sound. The bass elements can perform the ultra-long strokes with maximum linearity and XTZ has also developed a special NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) surround to complement them. The demands on the woofers mean that the boxes must be large to achieve the highest SPL even at the lowest frequencies. This is pure physics. An optimized volume for the driver provides the perfect air resistance for the driver. This leads to the highest SPL in low frequencies with maximum headroom from the amplifier. Too small or too large boxes lead to over-damped or under-damped subwoofers with increased distortion. A box with optimal volume has low distortion and the widest possible frequency response, allowing the subwoofer to deliver the lowest and deepest bass with a sound that is still clean yet has plenty of headroom for the gain. XTZ required their subwoofer to deliver very high sound pressure levels but still be accurate and faithful to the original music. XTZ met this challenge by using the specially developed very low mass long throw driver. The 12" cone is made of a very strong, long-fiber, mass-mixed material that optimizes the diaphragm's stiffness to weight ratio.
XTZ's specially designed drivers have several other advantages to achieve the perfect bass:

- Large aluminum shorting ring to minimize inductance and further reduce non-linear distortion

- Spindle made from a unique blend of polycotton and pure NOMEX
Claridy class-D amplifier
This amplifier, specially developed for the Cinema subwoofers, has an exceptionally high output power of 500 W RMS and 900 W of peak power when needed. The Cinema SUB 3X12 uses a Claridy monoblock for each element, giving a total power of 1500 W RMS / 2700 W Peak. Class D amplifiers work differently than A, B or A/B amplifiers. Because Class D amplifiers ("switching") can be turned on or off completely, they can dramatically increase midrange and bass output while minimizing power dissipation, providing a highly efficient amplifier that is very suitable for subwoofers. It eliminates the need for large power transformers, lots of output transistors and huge heat sinks. Class D amplifiers are remarkably compact for the amount of power they produce. The technology is highly efficient and a good illustration of the effectiveness of Class D amplification is to imagine a chip-sized module 7.6cm wide, 12.7cm deep and just 3.8cm high, producing up to 500W while delivering 90% of the power it receives to the speakers. Class D technology is also environmentally friendly thanks to its energy efficiency. In the past, most Class D amplifiers had major problems with distortion, but not anymore. By using the latest Claridy technology for Class D amplifiers with near-ideal clipping characteristics, we ensure maximum headroom by minimizing the use of limiting circuits. This results in precise sound that is noise and distortion free and a level of detail never before experienced. These achievements and the amplifier's powerful performance are the result of the many years XTZ has invested in perfecting the design.

Regarding speakers, be aware that speakers may need a long recording time to come into their own. After a couple of hours you can usually get a taste of what to expect, but a speaker deserves 100h+ before serious listening. The speakers we sell with ribbon tweeters need several hundred hours before they start to sing. So feel free to leave the speakers on around the clock so you can quickly accumulate hours.
